Roof Terrace View (I)

Posted by
Ian Smith (London, United Kingdom) on 8 September 2011 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

View towards Shard London from the Roof Terrace of the One New Change shopping mall in the City of London. In the foreground is a view in to Madison Restaurant Bar & Cafe (which I can't afford).
It's free to go up here, and ideally you'd want to come either early or late in the day so the sun isn't in your face (you only have a south view) - though I didn't get that right this time.

Very attractive composition with this diagonal and this building which looks like a lighthouse

@Marie LC: Thanks Marie!

Hmmm, dramatic view but it seems to me you are standing in an unprotected spot...where are the railings, etc. Oh, it gives me vertigo. I'd like to see more of this mall, this view. This is the best of armchair travel !! ;-)

@DULCIE: It looks more dangerous a position than it is - I've lined up a few different 'views' over the coming days, finishing on a shot where you can see where I was standing.

I must say, that Shard building has a lighthouse feel to it, don't you think?! This is a nice view, well done! ^)^

@janina: I think the BT Tower has the lighthouse look to it - this 'Shard' is like a quartz crystal piercing out of the ground. I travel under it every day on the train (it sits on top of London Bridge train station).

Don't think I care for the look of that Shard thing but it might grow on me. Your perch looks a bit precarious!

@Curly: Wait until you see some of the other things already under construction - the Cheesegrater, the Walkie-Talkie...
