The Norfolk Invasion

Posted by
Ian Smith (London, United Kingdom) on 14 June 2010 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

To anybody who lives in north Norfolk, this is a very familiar sight - thousands of wild geese trailing across the sky twice a day. Many head towards the wetlands at Holkham. They're formation never ceases to amaze me...

Wonderful beauty in this simple photo. Can you hear them as they pass over?

@GJC: Thanks GJC! Yes, you can hear them for about 10-15 minutes - as thousands (probably stretching over a mile or two) are in each flock.

Beautifully composed and captured! I've often seen similar formations but didn't have a camera handy! Great shot Ian!

@Pavan Kaul: Thank you Pavan. I've seen this many times, but this was the only time I had my camera to hand.

Writing in the sky, that's real cool, especially with more than one feather !

@k@: It only takes one feather to write a story - so you might call this the library of the sky?

Wonderful shot. Very poetic. I love hearing the geese pass overhead. There's something magical about their flight. Gives us all hope, I think.
